The Location - Kent and Medway

Be here in Kent and Medway

Kent and Medway has much to offer whatever your life stage, interests or family circumstances. With over 350 miles of coastline, seaside towns brimming with culture, you’ll find historic cities and picture-perfect villages.

Property is 33 per cent cheaper here than in London and we have a great selection of public and private schools with a grammar school system. Kent has four universities providing learning to more than 44,500 students and in excess of 14,000 graduates each year.

With excellent motorway and rail links to London and the continent, mainland Europe is accessible via Eurotunnel and ferry services from Dover.

Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS)

Kent and Medway is home to a brand new medical school that attracts talented, aspiring doctors from across the country. Opened in late 2020, KMMS offers training and development opportunities to support our local practices.

KMMS brings together existing centres of excellence in health and medicine and offers a pioneering model of people-first education. This approach supports our vision to be a beacon for first-class medical education and research.

Early clinical placements are a key feature of the KMMS programme. In the first two years, these are based in primary care networks across Kent and Medway. Here, students have the opportunity to develop the clinical skills taught on campus. And in the later years, clinical teaching is integrated across primary and secondary care settings.

Located in north Kent, Medway is under an hour from London and a gateway to the capital and wider county. Our 280,000 residents are the largest population in the south-east (outside of London). Medway operates at a city scale, and the population is set to increase to more than 320,000 in the next 25 years.

Graced by multiple heritage assets of national and international significance, Medway has a range of stunning parks, river frontage and globally recognised wetlands. With close to 2,000 hectares of open space, we’ve also been awarded Green Flag status.  It has an excellent calendar of events and attractions, with things to keep the whole family happy all year round.

Swale is home to idyllic, rural landscapes, the Isle of Sheppey and the bustling towns of Faversham and Sittingbourne. Each one contributes to the borough’s unique character and charm.

Having recently undergone a period of investment, Sittingbourne’s regeneration programme has added a new hotel, cinema, bowling alley and plenty of restaurants and bars to the area. The modern housing developments also offer affordable living combined with the perfect balance of vibrant town life and peaceful countryside.

If you’re looking to explore a bit more, the hillsides and extensive woodlands of the Kent Downs are stunning and offer much to be discovered. The landscape is a mix of both maritime and aviation history, with a trail of churches, historic buildings, countryside and award-winning beaches.
