The Offer - Kent and Medway

NHS Kent and Medway is working closely with Kent Local Medical Committee to make sure you and our practices are well supported.

We are looking for new GPs to join us in Medway, Thanet and Swale.

We will offer you:

  • A welcome payment of up to £15,000, split into three payments at 1, 7 and 13 months.
  • The ability to create a portfolio career that suits your lifestyle and ambitions. Combining part time clinical work with interests like urgent care, clinical leadership or education and training you’ll form a career that’s both interesting and challenging.
  • The support for GPs to build their own career paths in a number of ways. From undertaking academic fellowships to becoming a community education facilitator to support primary care network education.
  • Experienced GP and peer mentoring. Mentors act as an ear and advocate for you as a new GP to the area and you’ll benefit from their experience and knowledge. Peer mentoring connects you with GPs on your scheme, allowing you to share experiences, support and advice.
  • Quality improvement through access to the practice organisational development support programme, run by chartered occupational psychologists. This initiative will help you and the wider team enable change and to quality improve the practice that you’re working in to really make that difference when you are ready.

  • A session each month for quality Improvement activities to develop the practice you’re working in, along with monthly protected learning time events dedicated to learning and countinuing professional development.
  • Access to the primary care network community to support local educational activity and career development.
  • An enhanced GP appraisal process including retention and wellbeing support.
  • Support from the local council to support you with resettling (housing, schools, nurseries etc.).
  • The opportunity to enrol on to our new-to-practice programme and two-year fellowship scheme. It’s open to GPs within their first two years of their Certificate of Completion of GP training (CCT). It aims to bridge the gap between competency for CCT and confidence in a real-world environment. Find out more here.
  • Academic fellowships that run annually and allow a deeper experience into a particular field like Cardiology or Population Health. This will run alongside studying to obtain a PGCert (Post Graduate Certificate) from the University of Kent or Canterbury Christ Church University.
  • Support from our training hubs in Thanet, and Medway and Swale.

Our offer is available to anyone who has not previously held a substantive post in Kent and Medway. We welcome applications from GPs from other areas and those who have previously worked here as locums.
